al Musala

Inspired by challenges during Pratt’s Ramadan events, I conceived Al Musala – a public prayer space merging functionality and Islamic architecture for accessibility, storage, and community. Suited for universities, institutions, and parks, it serves as both a prayer space and bench. “Al Musala,” meaning “the place of worship” in Arabic, features a retractable mechanism, spanning at 3.6 meters with a mashrabiya-inspired steel bench. Engravings, locked rug access, and accommodating shoe shelves ensure secure and user-friendly utilization. My commitment extends to inclusivity, with considerations for the elderly and visually impaired.
